Marketing reports can contain many numbers: impressions, clicks, followers and enquiries. Each can answer a useful question. The challenge is choosing which questions matter to the business and understanding how the numbers relate to them.

Begin with the objective. Are you trying to introduce a new brand, attract suitable prospects or increase repeat bookings? Different objectives call for different ways of assessing progress.

Give each metric a purpose

Reach can help you review visibility. Website visits can show interest. Enquiries can indicate that people are considering the offer. Completed sales provide a later view of commercial outcomes.

No single measure explains the entire journey. A campaign may attract attention while the website or follow-up process limits the next step. Review the stages together before deciding what to change.

Define a qualified enquiry

An enquiry is useful when it fits what the business can provide. Define that fit with the sales team: service requested, location, budget or timing may be relevant, depending on the business.

Use those criteria consistently. A campaign that produces more forms is not automatically producing more suitable opportunities.

Connect marketing and sales records

Record how people found you when that information is available. Track what happens after the first contact: response, meeting, proposal and outcome. Include reasons for lost opportunities when customers provide them.

Attribution will sometimes be incomplete. Someone may see several channels before making contact. Be clear about what the records show and what remains uncertain rather than assigning every result to a single interaction.

Turn reporting into a decision

Use a small set of relevant measures and compare them over a suitable period. Account for delayed sales decisions, seasonality and limited data. Treat small early changes as signals to investigate.

Finish each review with an action or a question. Should you clarify the offer, improve follow-up or test a different audience? Measurement becomes valuable when it helps the team choose.

VIB connects ongoing marketing with business goals and continuous improvement, using results to inform what happens next.
